Hindu Festival

Today marks the beginning of the Hindu festival season, so there was a parade through the middle of Chandi Chowk, making what is normally a crowded situation even more so.

This is just one of many floats whose accumulated story Nigel said depicted the defeat of the Demon King Ravina by Lord Ram. I got a thumbs up from the guy with the handle-bar mustache shortly after taking this picture.

Nigel had no idea why Charlie Chaplain was involved in the story. I find the idea of Indians in "white-face" funny, for some reason.

This also marks the end of the Nigel tour. Shortly after this float passed our driver arrived with the car, and we parted ways with Nigel.

I was skimming through "The World Is Flat" during my lunch break and I found a possible explanation for the appearance of Charlie Chaplin in the parade. His image is being used to market mobile games and screen savers by the Indian company Dhruva. See: http://www.dhruva.com/html/mobile_chaplin.htm

But perhaps this generates still more questions than it does answers.
